How an OOAK Ball Jointed Doll is Created – From First Idea to Living Masterpiece
Share
Every ArtBeautyDolls piece begins with a single spark of inspiration.
As Latvian artist Olga Uvarova, I first spend time envisioning the doll’s unique character, mood, and story. Once the vision is clear, the most intricate part begins: sculpting the master model entirely by hand from premium Flumo cold porcelain.

For each doll I create individual plaster molds for every body part. Only then does the magic of cold porcelain come to life — each limb, torso, and head is carefully cast and refined by hand. After drying, every piece is meticulously sanded and fitted so the doll can move with natural grace.

The result is a fully articulated OOAK ball jointed doll: the 27 cm version features 13 joints, while the larger 32 cm dolls have 18 joints, allowing beautifully realistic and expressive poses.
Special attention is always given to the face — the very soul of the doll. I paint it with delicate watercolors, pencils, and pastels, bringing her expression to life.

Next come the hair — made from soft natural goat wool — and the couture outfit, designed and hand-embroidered by me with tiny beads and fine details.
Because each doll is created as a true one-of-a-kind artwork and never mass-produced, the entire process takes many weeks.
This is not assembly-line work. This is art. Check my available dolls here 👇
